Dorman Tailgate Handle for '07 Toyota Tundra

Thought I'd submit the first review on this product for those that may be considering it. I bought it to replace the factory tailgate handle that broke.

I searched Amazon thoroughly and it seemed there weren't a lot of options for a replacement tailgate handle for my 2007 Toyota Tundra (single cab, long box). This one qualified and even though it was considerably more expensive than others that didn't, I forged ahead and bought it. I'm thinking it was a smart move. The new part perfectly matched up with the old unit. It has the look and feel of quality that matches or exceeds the original equipment.

It didn't come with installation instructions but it's pretty straight forward. First, you'll need to remove the panel from the inside of your tailgate. Then, remove the two hex head screws (one on each end) holding the entire assembly in place. Snap the rods out of the plastic clips and maneuver the entire assembly out of the tailgate. The only part you' ll need to transfer from the old assembly to the new assembly is the key lock. It is held in by the large metal clip that is half way up the barrel. Sliding it all the way forward should allow you to pull the key lock clear. Transfer the lock to the Dorman. Reverse these steps to reassemble. I would recommend lubricating all the moving parts, including the new assembly, with a quality lubricant prior to putting the tailgate panel back on.

While this was a recent purchase, my tailgate handle works far easier than it did with the old handle. The handle throw is perfect. No adjustments were needed. I don't anticipate any tailgate handle problems for the rest of this vehicle's lifespan.
